Nancy asks…

Have you been successful with affiliate marketing programs?

If you have had success with affiliate marketing programs, I would like to know what you think the key to your success has been.

Support answers:

Yes, we’re doing quite well with affiliate programs, earning us thousands per month (in addition to our online advertising revenues)

There are several factors to achieving success with affiliate programs:

1. Choose affiliate programs that your visitors would be interested in. The program should fit with the overall theme of your site and something your users would want. You can’t achieve much success with an affiliate program for hotels if your website is about dogs.

2. Promote your affiliate programs. Using emails to banners to text links are ok. But the best way is through content — write something about how effective the products/services are. Tell your audiences that these are the best tools for them and why.

3. Location, location, location. Don’t just put your affiliate program links on one spot of your website, such as the homepage. Visitors don’t always come through your homepage – and these people will not likely see the affiliates you are promoting. If you can, put them on almost every page of your website. The more visible the affiliate program is, the more chances you can get a sale

John asks…

What Affiliate Marketing Programs are the Best?

I built a website. I’ve found a long list of online companies that I can advertise with, but they all seem just about identical. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Can anyone tell me about how much I can make with any program, or if any approach is better than another?

Support answers:

Clickbank
Commission Junction
Share-A-Sale

These are the larger programs – all well established.

You’ll have to set up your accounts, optimize your site, get some traffic, get some clicks, make some sales.

That’s how it works.

Your Question About Affiliate Marketing Training

Ken asks…

I need opinions about Affiliate Marketing Programs?

I have started working with a few programs that offer Affiliate Marketing training, but was inundated with so much information, that I was overwhelmed and haven’t started any blog or web site yet. I’m not sure which programs I should stay with, and which I should cancel, because they don’t seem to be too helpful.

Do any of you professionals have advice for me as to the process and priorities, as well as which programs are the best?

I have a web site that I want to promote under children’s safety: http://www.keep-safelockbox.com, and thought I would add links and maybe a page for articles on keeping children safe. However, I also want to have a blog or web site for retirees, with several pages on different subjects that can promote other affiliates. Which is better–a blog or web site for that purpose?
Thanks for any help.
Edie

Support answers:

The most successful affiliate websites are those websites that choose affiliate programs that their audience need and want. Affiliate programs work best if they are integrated into the site — not the main and only focus of the site.

This is especially true for affiliate programs that even provide web pages to their affiliates — which means that if they have 1,000 affiliates, then you will have 999 competitors offering the same products with the same exact website (with a minor variations here and there). Plus, you will be competing with the main company as well.

Think of Amazon.com and its affiliate program. There are hundreds of thousands of Amazon affiliates selling books and other products for Amazon. If the site owner simply creates a website with books of Amazon — without some value added — people will not bother to visit his site. So income will be minimal at most.

The key is for your site to create unique value added content, so that visitors will want to visit your site first. If visitors want to buy books, for example, why would they come to YOU instead of going straight to Amazon? Why go to an affiliate, when they can go to the real deal?

You’re on the right track with your plan to include articles (the more original the better). If you want to promote several affiliate programs, think of a theme for your site that will link them all together — or create different websites for each.

The benefit of a website relative to a blog, is the flexibility, in terms of layout, that it provides. Blogs are a little more limited, depending upon whether you are using a free theme or a premium theme. Premium themes do allow a certain amount of layout flexability. That is why you pay for those as opposed to a free theme. Hope this helps.

Affiliate Marketing… where do I start?

I want to get aboard the affiliate marketing train, but do not want to be run over, and lose a ton of money, because of a bad decision. What is the best program to learn from, to better understand the business and how it works?

Support answers:

There are so many different ways to make money using the affiliate marketing business model, and thus a huge number of programs. What I would suggest is that you read about affiliate programs that interest you, and choose one that you think will work for you. Do not jump from one program to another, as this is usually the reason why most affiliates fail. They get so bogged down with so much information, and end up accomplishing nothing. Also, make sure that the program you choose has good support, as this is very important as well.
I have learned about affiliate marketing from a site that offers free lessons called Affilorama. It is great for beginners and the lessons are easy to understand. Check it out here if you don’t want to invest any money yet.

How do I Get Started With Affiliate Marketing? Which Affiliate Networks? My own Blog?

How do I get started with Affiliate Marketing? There are a lot ofaffiliate networks? Which ones do I sign up with? And do I need to have my own website or blog to do this? Please help me understand.

Thank You,
Kaloni

Support answers:

Start reading a bit and learning on how affiliate marketing works.

You don’t need your own website or blog to get started. You can do direct linking from AdWords, article marketing, video marketing or even social network marketing.

Start with Clickbank and Commission Junction. Then, when you’re comfortable, look at other affiliate networks.

John asks…

Best way for newbie or experienced webmasters to make money online?

We have recently launched a social network and portal for friends: www.todleho.com. I just want to know how can I monetize my site? We have already implemented Google Adsense, Chitika and others, but have yet to receive any real benefits. Thanks.

Support answers:

Making money on ANY website is all down to the number of visitors. The more visitors you have, the more you will make, and the more options you will have to monetize as your traffic increases. Take Facebook for example… With so many millions of people every day going on that site, and most having it on all day long, the potential to earn a lot of money from this is very real.

If you can’t make money from a good program like Adsense so far, then this normally means you likely don’t have enough visitors.

Concentrate on getting the site seen by more people, and continue to add quality content, then monetize.
